Description
Artist Jerry Bokowski is sitting on the stump of a once beautiful shade tree that adorned the front yard of Walter and Margaret Vail. While sitting there, Jerry reflected back on the lives and dreams of the Vail family during the 1880s while living in total solitude on the high desert grasslands of Empire Ranch. After seeing an old black & white photo of this area in the early 1900s, he decided to do a painting called: Her Space...Her dreams, that would feature newly wedded Margaret Vail day dreaming of how she wanted her yard to look. Green grass, hedges in front of the bay window, Ivy Vines on the wall of the cowboy quarters that also housed her husband Walters office and the office of their full time bookkeeper. The windows above Jerrys arm were added to enclose an open porch during the 1930s when the Boise family owned the ranch. Jerry is pointing to where he is going to place Margaret Vail in the scene. Yes, Research for a Painting!

Excellent portrait and backstory on your research!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
A lot of restoration has taken place since this was taken. It is such a historic ranch. My home in Vail was named after the owner of it. Thank you very much for your comments here, Chance!

Georgia, Being there answered so many questions regarding little details. It also added motivation and desire to do the painting! Thank you very much!

Jerry, what a wonderful project. I loved reading the history and how you were going to put this together in the painting. Hopefully the Empire Art show will be back in 2017 so you can enter your wonderful work.
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Lucinda, Thank you. The whole experience has been such a pleasure. Especially with all of the positive feedback I've received!

Like a true artist, researching and contemplating on the image he/she is about to create. I think of this scene where you are in a sense re-arranging your physical environment to suit the place you are about to express through an image. What a wonderful way you create and re-create reality! If this isn't playing with creation, I don't know what is! The Gods must be smiling and dancing with joy seeing all this at play! :)
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Priya, You see and understand so much and then are willing to take your time to construct a thoughtful comment that is such a joy for me to read. Thank you so much!

Interesting research Jerry, the project is great!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I was sad to find out that the EMPIRE 100 art show was cancelled for 2016. They said it will be back in 2017, so at least I will have a nice series of paintings to enter in that show. Thank you, Corina. Always great to read your words!
