Rialto Theater Tucson Arizona
Artist
Jerry Bokowski

Painting - Acrylic On Canvas Board
Description
My interest in the historic Rialto theater was peaked by a gentleman that purchased a painting of mine at the 46th Annual Contempary Western Art Show at the Mountain Oyster club in Tucson, Arizona last November 2015. He is a member of a restoration committee dedicated to restoring this historic theater in downtown Tucson, Arizona. I thought that I would feature it on a rainy evening after a show and every one had left. Who knows, maybe I might add folks walking with umbrellas in order to offer two print options. This painting was done almost entirely by airbrush with a style I used years ago doing art murals on custom vans and trucks. Two FAA artists have really inspired me to take a break from landscapes and do some architectural work of historic Arizona buildings and homes. Thank you Hanne Lore Koehler, your homes are incredible and I thank Mona Edulesco, from Lyon, France who does fantastic rainy night scenes. I have met so many new and dear friends, artists and photographers on FAA that have been a continued source of motivation and inspiration.
This painting was sold on February 18, 2017 during the Rialto Theater Gala auction. I thank the buyer for purchasing it as it will contribute to ongoing efforts to restore this historic venue.
***Much thanks for the HOMEPAGE FEATURE in these FAA Art Groups***

Oh Jerry This is Really EXTRAORDINARY~ at first glance- I thought it was a photograph.. but quickly realized- it has that Special Something that makes it so much more Interesting and Exciting than even Reality Itself! True Art ! I think the Shimmers and Reflections are my favorite part! The detailing is Perfect... yet it feels like a Very Cool Dream~
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I did this in a style I used in the 1970s and 80s on customized vans and trucks...a half of lifetime ago. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Danielle. I enjoyed every word!
Mona Edulesco
Gorgeous painting, Jerry! Love the style and the amazing details! LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This was almost entirely done with an airbrush, Mona. All my art from 1976 to 1990 was done with an airbrush on custom vans and trucks. Now, almost all my paintings are with a paintbrush and done on canvas. Thank you so much as always, my favorite artist in France!

paying a revisit to this beautiful painting featuring an icon of downtown Tucson at night.. love the addition of the "Cox" logo too. Wonderful work!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This is about precise as I can get, Chance. One FAA member compared this style of my work to Edward Hopper’s amazing art. For that I was very flattered yet humbled! Thank you as always for your continued support!

Tanya R Unger
Fantastic work, Jerry! Brings me back to my youth... growing up in a small town, with very small and quaint, local businesses. Lovely!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
For years, downtown Tucson languished. Today it is such a popular place, great restaurants, street cars, two historic theaters. This painting was just a way that I could contribute, Tanya. Thank you so much for your visit and comments!

Jerry, this is really something! They say photography is all about the light. You have manage to paint the light, and do it so very, very well. You have a marvellous talent, my friend. Congrats on your sale! L/F

Revisiting, Jerry ... & clarifying: my clumsy words didn't really convey what I meant ..; of course your painting is not a digital art; I was making reference to the incredible precision you executed here with your steady hand {oh, do keep me away from comments too late at night!} :))
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Dear Connie, I always treasure your comments, be they late at night or at the zenith of your energies! Thanks so much for coming back. Although much was airbrush, ALL the lettering was done by paint brush. Steady Hand? Only with TWO hands....lefty to help righty stay steady!
Connie Handscomb
Yes! you see? your details are so fine, this looks like a digital artwork. The architect in you has surfaced & for that we are blessed; keep them coming, Jerry! the Lights here are truly splendid , they highlight key areas & balance the composition marvelously:))
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Connie, you have such a way with words that always lights up my day. Thank you so much!
Linda Johnsen
I love this one, Jerry! It almost looks like a photograph. Such a great work with the straight lines and the colors. I also like the moody feeling I get from this empty street. Well done! F/L
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you, Linda. This was so fun for me to paint as it brought back memories of the way I used to paint art on automobiles like vans and trucks when I was young and fearless!
Chris Flees

Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Chris! I always appreciate your visits, comments and promotion!

Jerry, this is a fabulous image of the theater in Tucson. I love such landmarks, and you have depicted this one in such a beautiful style and great colors. I was fond of the theater in my hometown resembling this one; sadly, it was torn down years ago. l.f.g+
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Elizabeth. I hope to have this painting in the annual Rialto gala next year. Proceeds from the sale will go to funds for ongoing restoration of this historic theater!
Kathy Franklin
I thought this was a photograph too! Fav
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This is the painting that I mentioned in my email, Kathy. Imagine that title with those words on the marquise. Just a thought!

This conjures up so many memories and feelings I have experienced through the film media. Such as the movie "The Majestic". I think of all the wonderful moments people must have experienced and memories cherished from times gone by. The hustle and bustle of people waiting to get into a show to be dazzled and entertained, and then the quiet and loneliness of the theater when all have gone home. You have captured that feeling in this wonderful piece. I love it that your artwork gives us the collector the opportunity to see our memories captured and how well your story and feeling comes out in your work. So talented!! Love it/favorite!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I too saw the movie The Majestic, JA. Although panned by most of the critics I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts on this put to words!
Lois Bryan
