Description
I have driven past majestic Elephant Head Rock of the Santa Rita Mountains many times on the way to Tubac, Arizona. Occasionally, I have exited I-19 and traveled along the Elephant Head road. It is along this road that this view can be seen.
When our summer rains begin, the clouds can create a dramatic light and shadow show. Here we see part of this 2,000 foot tall granite peak illuminated while the rest of the landscape in the shadows.
The high desert vegetation consists of Creosote, Acacia, Mesquite, Cholla, Prickly Pear, Ocotillo. I love the smell of wet Creosote as a stiff breeze from the storm cools my face. This tiny 8”x10” painting takes me back to a beautiful day in our desert.

So glad to see my photography used as a reference for this lovely piece. Adding your personal touches in lighting, composition, and perspective. Also, yours is a summer monsoon rendition to mine photographed in winter. I love how you rendered the lighting on this unique monolith. It always seems to catch the sunlight just right, showcasing its beauty. It looks way better in person, especially in the rustic frame. So great you received some nice comments about this. LF 💕💕💕💕
Jerry Bokowski replied:
It seems you shoot lots of images while we’re together that I later want to paint the event on canvas. Your reference pics are fabulous and will always keep me busy behind the easel. Thank you so much for your kind, loving words. They keep me so motivated!

Jerry, I enjoyed reading your description as much as viewing this incredible little painting. How you maintain your level of detail at that size escapes me, but it certainly is so fun to look at. You have brilliantly painted the Elephant Head and the essence of the storm clouds and landscape so well. Bravo!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you Chance. While tiny paintings require tiny paint brushes and precise brush strokes, they come together so fast compared to my large scale works. So it is a nice change for me!
