Road to Grandeur ZION
Artist
Jerry Bokowski
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Description
Just two weeks ago I was in Zion National Park. It was a rainy morning but I thought I'd still try to get some good reference photos for a future painting. This road to grandeur is actually a national park service road that leads to a corral and stables for guided horse back tours through the park! Here we see a brief small break in the clouds that allows the sun to highlight the valley between the Sentinel and Court of the Patriarchs. I have seen some wonderful waterfalls here and believe this one plummets 600 feet. Clouds caress the huge cliff tops and make for a very ethereal mood. When FAA photographer Beth Vesseur saw that pic called ZION Rain, she called it Grandeur and said that she daydreamed of a painting of it some day. Well, here it is Beth and thank you so much for the motivation to paint it!

Many years ago, I was a geology major in Utah. Your work has ignited a warm nostalgia for the canyon country. Glad I found your work.

CONGRATULATIONS JERRY...JULY 2020 FAA TONY AWARD WINNER!! This is one of my favorites of your Desert beauties! It boasts BEAUTY in GRAND SCALE! Underpinning all of your work is a CONSISTENT emotive respect for the deep contrasts of Light and Shadow as well as earthen colours set against emboldened, dramatic skies!! Enjoy this award...so well deserved! LF

I don't know how I ever missed this one. Gerry, absolutely beautiful painting here as always. Love the gray, misty mood, the road leading in, and the waterfall at the back. Composition wise this works SO well and wonderfully conveys mist, depth, and gives the eye so many places to go. Excellent work!!

That Mist is excellent, looks like it was air-brushed and that is hard to do. I like all your paintings Jerry, you have a talent for the mountains and canyons and the way light and shade play upon them as well as good color combinations. a "Like" & "fav" from me
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Mark. I do use an airbrush at times. I used to do custom murals on vans and trucks years ago. Like the effects and atmospheric feel they can produce.

Jerry, it looks like Heaven is just around the bend, inviting one to travel a little further down the road to enter paradise! LF

The day we experienced this in May of 2015 to just last April with spring green it is always breath taking to be in Zion, Malanda. We did explore that road and a path well beyond it. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments!
