Description
Maybe I should have named this THE IMPOSSIBLE. To attempt to capture the thousands of intricate rock formations and HOODOOS that make up Bryce Canyon National Park Utah (USA), in a painting, was a daunting endeavor. Yet, I have always had a desire to capture one of Bryce Canyons most popular viewpoints and amphitheaters, BRYCE POINT. Most paintings I have seen do a wonderful job at portraying a small intimate area of Bryce, Thors Hammer for example but I just had to try more of a panoramic portrayal. The challenge is that there is so much to capture. I risked having something too busy. too much going on, how to achieve any semblance of a focal point, how can I achieve depth? Also, maybe only those that have actually been to Bryce and seen it would understand just what is going on here. So after painting all of the individual areas, I played with atmosphere, some distant rain, the shadows of implied clouds, in order to achieve depth diagonally from lower left foreground and canyon walls to upper right as the farthest area of the amphitheater away. Even the soaring Eagle helps to push the canyon back a bit.
The music group the PIANO GUYS performed the song TITANIUM from the 8,300 foot high plateau forest, on the edge of this viewpoint, as well as down on the trail. You can see a video of this on YouTube.
I hope that my love and passion for this unique and beautiful place on the earth is manifest in my work. Bryce at this time of day late in the afternoon is something breathtaking to experience!

A free spirit soaring high in a boundless sky! What a grand visual this is! with the wonderful play of contrasting tones of blue and rust and orange representing the elements of sky and earth! The mountain in the distant horizon which accentuates the sense of depth. Wonder how long you must have laboured over this masterpiece Jerry with all the meticulous detailing of the rocks! L/Fav

Jerry this is honestly a very grand capture of scenic beauty, and the best thing is that I love the powerful soul floating free in the sky, the very smooth colors, which are so in relaxed mode. the soft texture, and the motion of peacefulness! Such a blessing this shot is! :)

Another amazing painting that captures my eyes and draws me in! And as I view this I can see more and more intricate details that never cease to amaze me. I can only imagine being here and seeing this in real life ( and some day I hope to ), but if not, I feel as if I am, when I view this painting! And as always, I love the way you pay special attention to light. It appears that dark clouds are all around and then there is that one break in the clouds that allows the sun to shine down, drawing attention to the center, and then the depth of the background! Which then draws attention to, what appears to be a road winding around. And each peak, so precisely painted with details of shadows and light, and all those trees in between. Wow! And oh yeah.....I didn't look over that beautiful eagle! Wish I were him for 10 minutes to see what he sees. But, instead, I see what you've seen and now you have brought it to life! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
You picked up on exactly why I painted this, Deborah. Believe me, a few days into it, I thought that I was crazy for attempting it. We were last there the last week of April, 2017. It was snowing and 27 degrees with a stiff freezing wind. Our guest from Macedonia and ourselves could not stop laughing through shivering lips! Still it was incredible. We left for Tucson at 4:30 pm with a nine hour drive ahead of us. The trip flew by as we talked all the way home...lots of coffee though! Bryce is totally unique and incredible!

WOW! Jerry, this is fabulous! And you have TRULY captured the magnificence of this place. You are right, those who have actually been there understand what you are accomplishing here. This place is beyond description, but you have done a fabulous job of "describing" it in detail with this painting! And I love the eagle. L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
TK, I really enjoyed reading what you had to say about this. Thank you so much!
