Description
Zion National Park is one of my favorite places on the planet. Located in southwest Utah. (USA) I have been there over 20 times in the past 25 years and almost every month of the year. I have hiked many of the popular trails, including Angels Landing, Canyon Overlook, Emerald Pools, the Narrows, and the setting for this painting, Observation point.
It is a steep, physical hike of over four miles that places you over 2,000 feet above the canyon floor and Virgin River. The view from up there is absolutely magnificent. During the spring of 1998, I invited some close friends to travel with my family to Zion. During our hike we noticed a storm front moving in. By the time we got close to the summit, we could see it raining just a few miles west of us over the town of Springdale. Minutes later it started raining on us. It continued to rain all the way down the trail, and we were wet and cold, but the experience was unforgettable. I painted this in memory of that beautiful day, high above the Canyon.

CONGRATULATIONS JERRY...JULY 2020 FAA TONY AWARD WINNER!! This is one of my favorites of your Desert beauties! This one takes my breath away!!....It boasts BEAUTY in GRAND SCALE! Underpinning all of your work is a CONSISTENT emotive respect for the deep contrasts of Light and Shadow as well as earthen colours set against emboldened, dramatic skies!! Enjoy this award...so well deserved! LF

Jerry, your profile surprises me with another stunner. This one is just out of this world. I wholeheartedly say this is not only one of the best paintings I have seen of yours, but ever, anywhere. The atmosphere and light rays shooting down the canyon is just incredible. Great work as always!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I painted this in 1998 after our trip. It is a hike I highly recommend. 4 miles up and 4 back. Works your legs both ways! Thanks a lot, Chance!
