Description
The setting here is a sunrise after an August evening monsoon rain over the Mustang Mountains east of Sonoita and Elgin Arizona. The grasslands have greened up and we are surrounded by southern Arizona wine and cattle ranch country. Historic Empire Ranch is nearby. It was founded by Walter and Margaret Vail back in the 1870s and grew to over 100,000 acres. This area is now also home to vineyards that produce wonderful award winning wines. The Steak Out Restaurant, a few miles west of here is a great place to have dinner in the old west!

This is a print from a 35mm slide I had from 1992. The original was commissioned by a couple that owned a custom home in the Sonoita area. I ordered a FAA print of it that hangs in our guest room. Great wine in fact. The Sedona, Jerome, Cottonwood area has 13 wineries and the Sonoita/ Elgin area near my home in Vail has 10 winery/vineyards: Sonoita Vineyard & Kief-Joshua, Callagen, Wilhelm Vineyards among our favorites. About a 40 minute drive away and the area is totally different from the Tucson/Vail Sonoran Desert cactus land!
