Description
The Zion Mount Carmel Highway ends at the Gateway to the Narrows. There are towering cliffs all 360 degrees around you. This amazing red rock wall leads the eye straight up to the white sandstone of Observation point. The huge trees on the tops of the cliffs are dwarfed by the immense scale of the walls that rise 2,200 feet above. I have been to the very top of Observation Point several times and looked down from there and only then do you sense the towering height and scale of this wondrous place. Grandeur personified!

Parts of this shot remind me of Canyon De Chelly with the red walls and the trees. Excellent work my friend! l/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Lucinda, Thank you. The vertical red walls are slightly higher than De Chelly....the lighter and white Navajo sandstone rise another 500 to 1500 feet higher. I had forgotten just how straight UP this place is and how hard to even begin to capture its scale! The huge 90 to 100 foot tall pine trees atop these help....just has to be seen to be believed!

Amazing landscape scene Jerry!! lf
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Tina, thank you so much. If this was a 8 foot by 12 foot image and your eye level was at the bottom looking up, perhaps the scale would come across the way you experience it in person!

Wonderful shot Jerry! I backpacked Zion back in college and I remember this view!!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Kathy, I am glad that this brought back some good memories. I have been there so many times and this time after 5 years, I had forgotten just how VERTICAL this place is. You are constantly looking almost straight UP!

This is a HUGE {sheer} rock! The very SOLID coppery red stone is .... pardon my lack of vocabulary today, Jerry .. pretty :)))
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Connie, You NEVER need pardoning...I always enjoy reading YOUR words. Thank you so much!
