Description
I took a photo of this area years ago back in the 35mm film days. I used the photo as reference for a painting recently. Last May of 2015 I revisited this spot to see if I could find the spot I used for the painting. Looking at this can you imagine taking this on? So much to render but after four weeks of patient work, the painting was done. I added a distant storm, the shadows of clouds, and waterfalls to help achieve depth and scale.
This area is what greets you after driving through a mile long tunnel. The cliffs here are so massive and high and so hard to capture on film or canvas. It must be seen to be believed and appreciated.

What a pleasant surprise, Natascha! Thank you for visiting and commenting. I would like to read what you think of some of my art of Grand Canyon and Zion someday.

~ You are absolutely right, dear Jerry. This breathtaking Beauty must be seen to be believed and appreciated ))) Your painting made by this image as a reference is one of my favorite Masterpieces of yours ))) Gorgeous indeed ))) ~
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This painting takes me back over 28 years ago when I saw it for the first time. I fell in love with this awesome unique place. I never tire of seeing it, especially when sharing it with a guest that sees it for the first time. Thank you so much, Eva.

One of my favorite places to photograph. You captured a very nice shot and vantage point Jerry. FV
Ava Peterson
Wow! Breathtaking! I would love to see this in person! You captured great grandeur!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Ava, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this with me. You would love this place!

How clever to have this image next to your painting! ; shows your talent, Jerry ... {yes, you are!} :)))
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Connie, Thank you. The side by side reference pic / painting shows the daunting challenge to start with a blank canvas as well as make changes like cloud shadows & rain in order to create separation and depth. Toss in a water fall where it falls all one brush stroke at a time!
Lucinda Walter
Excellent shot. At first I though this could be Salt River Canyon area with that winding road. l/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Lucinda, thank you! Yes, the road leading into the canyon from the east entrance does wind alot like the Salt River Canyon!
Patricia Awapara
Wonderful view!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Patricia, thank you. The view is spectacular in all 360 degrees. This is just a fraction of what must be experienced in person to be appreciated!

Stunning landscape work Jerry! The tonal range, textures and light make a very exciting composition indeed! I can't even begin to imagine the work that would have gone into painting a scene such as this!!! Beautiful photograph! L/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Carol, Thank you so much. This is kinda like, "how do you climb a mountain?,,,,,one step at a time". In the case, one brush stroke at a time! I think I'll post this pic next to my painting in the Zion paintings gallery!
