Description
A while back, FAA member Natalie Ortiz, asked me if I had ever painted the Sleeping Beauty Mountains, near Globe, Arizona. I decided to do a panoramic dusk silhouette of the mountains using colors for the sky that suggested a little Turquoise. For years, the mines here produced some of the most beautiful and vivid Turquoise that was highly esteemed by Native American Zuni Pueblo Silversmiths. They used it in inlays, petite joint, needlepoint for matched jewelry sets. The Turquoise was aptly named "Sky Stone."
The mountains got their name Sleeping Beauty as from a distance they resembled the profile of a beautiful woman lying down asleep facing skyward. Can you see her?
