Description
In English, doble problema means double trouble. Colossal twin cumulonimbus anvil clouds, tower 30,000 feet over the Santa Catalina Mountains, north of Tucson, Arizona. Two brilliant flashes of lighting, two giant saguaros, and two desert trees provide a setting for a powerful summer monsoon storm. Some viewers of the painting have commented that that colors seem to be too cool, or even cold for a summer painting. I commend their observational skills. You see with these storms, a humid summer day, can drop from a hot 102 degrees to a cool 72 degrees in less than an hour. The last rays of sunlight to the west can create an amazing range of spectacular colors in the huge clouds. A stiff wind blows cool, moist air laden with the scent of wet creosote (chaparral). This is a Sonoran fragrance I have loved since my family first moved to Tucson in 1957. This view was captured from my home located at the north eastside of Tucson in 2007.

Re-visiting this MARVELoUS painting, dear Jerry. It certainly captures the dramatic beauty of our summer Monsoon storms, as well as the aWeSoMe landscape in all their glory. I have photographed clouds such as these, so I can testify to how truly dramatic they can be. Shared on Facebook, LF

CONGRATULATIONS JERRY...JULY 2020 FAA TONY AWARD WINNER!! This is one of my favorites of your Desert beauties! It boasts BEAUTY and THUNDEROUS DRAMA in GRAND SCALE! Underpinning all of your work is a CONSISTENT emotive respect for the deep contrasts of Light and Shadow as well as earthen colours set against emboldened, dramatic skies!! Enjoy this award...so well deserved! LF

How haven't I seen this magnificent work before? Each time I visit, I see something different that just catches my eye. You capture the true spirit of Arizona - looking at this, I don't just see the storm, I feel it.

This is a stunning painting which captures this amazing storm! And after reading your description, I took yet another look and admired it even more. I don't know if I already wrote a comment, but no matter, I never get tired of viewing your paintings! What I love about coming over here to your web page is not only all of the beautiful paintings of Az, Ut and more, but learning about the area of which you painted. We don't have clouds like this here where I live, so I am always amazed when I see these kind of clouds in pictures. God bless you for your artistic talent and sharing it with the world! L/F

Jerry, my family and I,lived out side Tucson , near Old Tucon ,the movie set, and the Desert Museum. Many days we listened to the cracking of the thunder and witnessed the blinding light of the lightening. You have captured the power of the moment so beautifully. V/F and will follow you.
