Description
Back in 1970 I used to drive my 1963 Corvette convertible up the Catalina Highway to a place called Windy Point. From there the lights of Tucson sparkled under the full moon light. In the distance I could see Baboquivari Peak and Kitt Peak where there is an international observatory. On the way up I had the radio on and a song called "Lights of Tucson" was playing by Jim Campbell. One of the lyrics went like this:"Can't wait to be there with her....high in the Catalinas....the lights of Tucson shining in her eyes...." A video of this song can be found on YOU TUBE.... I loved the moon lit granite rocks, Thimble Peak
( which appears from the desert floor in 2 of my paintings ) and the feeling of space, solitude and beauty of it all. I like to dedicate art and photos to those that I have met on FAA that are special. The rich, yummy almost achingly beautiful BLUES are dedicated to Connie Handscomb for all of her encouraging support. Thank you so much, Connie !!

I just love this view of Tucson from Windy Point, Jerry, and you depicted so marvelously in your night painting. Simply magical! LF

I'm definitely going to look up that song by Jim Campbell in the description. I'd title this, 'Blue Velvet':)
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Can’t believe that song is now 50 years old, Renu! Yes, check it out on YouTube. I love living in Tucson. Thank you very much for your visit and comments!

Awesome work Jerry.. the moon lit sky and the rocks looks very realistic. you have beautifully portrayed the feeling of space and solitude in this art work. l/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Pavitha. I recently gave this to an old friend of mine that I first met in 7th grade. We went to high school together. Our 50 year high school reunion will be next year. He and his wife visited us last September and he loved this painting. A few months later I decided he should have it. He loves it!

This is another great piece, love the night time concept. Only did one nite scene in watercolor, their hard compared to Oil as I did some interesting oils many years ago.
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thanks Mark. Just a simple painting as a break from so many complicated works!
Malanda Warner
What a lovely and sentimental description Jerry! Beautiful rich and deep velvety blues framing the city lights! Fabulous, as always! LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Oh Malanda, thank you for commenting on this. Way back in 1970 as a teenager I used to drive up here to this viewpoint and just take it all in. I longed for the day when I could share it with a dear one. Since then, my bride, best friend, and soulmate and I have seen and enjoyed it many times. A gorgeous place for a couple to enjoy! So I decided to paint it. Thank you!

Thank you, Elizabeth. I often dream about sharing my part of the world, my home, with a visitor from Oceans away. To see the look on their face as they behold the beauty of Arizona and Utah!

Such a lovely work of art! You have a wonderful talent and gift. :)

Thank you so much, Julie. I love full moons and used to paint a lot of them years ago. The Catalina Mountains offer wonderful city views at night!

Wow, Jerry!.....the moon in this painting drew me in, but I got so much more then to view your wonderful painting! I got a beautiful memoir from 1970 and the history of this lovely place and introduced to Jim Campbell! I looked up his song and indeed it's a good song! But I also found out he is an artist and known for his LED light works. ( looked that up too! ) Very cool! Your painting is stunning! Love the way you have the light of the moon reflecting on the rocks! And so sweet of you to dedicate this to Connie! Fave!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Deborah, Your comment here is awesome. I so appreciate EVERYTHING you had to say. I means a whole lot to me. Thank you so much!
