From the time I was 6 years old, this Tucson landmark has fascinated me. During the early 1960s, my grandmother befriended famous Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia. She did a portrait of him that appeared in a local newspaper photo and article. She would bring me along to his Gallery of the Sun, and I was intrigued by the rustic architecture and the smell of fresh oil paint in his studio. To this day I have some stereo 3-D color slides of Grandma and Ted together talking art and life. They both passed away in 1982, but I still hear the voice of my grandmother while working on a painting, giving me advice and tips on what to do. I loved the lush and rugged Sonoran desert and saguaros, but most of all, the towering majesty of Finger Rock high in the Santa Catalina Mountains, as seen from the Gallery of the Sun. The setting for this painting is just north of the end of Alvernon Way during the month of August, when the summer monsoon season produces incredible clouds. Sunsets are breath taking, especially when one is viewed from the foot of Finger Rock. This painting is my humble attempt to capture this amazing crag and desert beauty.

I love this painting for so many different reasons. One, I love gorgeous, colorful summer monsoon, cloudscapes, looming behind the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains. Then your magnificent rendition of the towering majesty of Tucson, Arizona's famed rock formation, Finger Rock. Not to mention my favorite monarchs of the Sonoran Desert, the Saguaro Cactus, standing in promontory stance, along these foothills. And last, but not least, the lush desert flora that graces the landscape. Promoting this in Beauty Of Arizona, "Famous Rock Formations and Mtns. of Arizona!" LF and FB
