While visiting Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park (USA), in August of 2017, it provided some incredible scenes for my wife and I. This is the fourth painting from that trip. Our last morning was amazing. We got up early to see the sunrise from Mather Point. At first we were so disappointed as overcast skies looked to completely block out the sun. Most people left. We stayed and were rewarded with spectacular scenes in every direction.
Here we are looking east, as sun rays take our eyes to distant Vishnu and Wotan’s Throne on the horizon. Zoroaster Temple can be seen on the far left, as O’Neill Butte and Cedar Ridge are in dark silhouette. Mornings like this, at a place like Grand Canyon, are mesmerizing and unforgettable.
I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below. I paint real places that one can visit and see. Whether it be Finger Rock of the Catalina Mountains,The Sentinel in Zion National Park, or Mather Point at the Grand Canyon, it is my goal and desire to have my paintings draw a viewer to them and that they become...

beautiful work! love the sun rays and the layers of the sides of the canyon. Just awesome. I have been to the Grand Canyon once and hope to return this spring if I can actually get some time out of my job.. it's been keeping me so busy and will probably get worse for a while.. you capture the grandeur and depth of it so well here.
