In August of 1988 we traveled to Zion National Park for the very first time after visiting Bryce Canyon. After driving through a mile long tunnel we were greeted with our very first view of the inner canyon of Zion.This view in fact. To the distant far upper left we saw the West Temple. The Great Streaked Wall was most impressive as it towered over the canyon floor. The white sandstone peaks known as the Beehives rise over 3,500 feet above the Virgin River. The Zion Mount Carmel Highway takes a hair pin curve as it winds down Pine Creek Canyon. Huge streaks are from iron oxide in the sandstone as waterfalls drain from the upper plateaus. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below.
