Jerry, you absolutely captured the essence of beauty in this work! It is just spectacular! FLTw

Jerry Bokowski replied:

Thank you so much, Debby. Unfortunately, the 6 week long Big Iron Fire burnt most of the vegetation in this entire area!

Paying another revisit to this beautiful painting with so much atmosphere, color, and glow, to see what this area looked like before being incinerated and buried under violent smoke! It may never be the same for a very long time, but your painting will stand as a reminder to what it once was!

Jerry Bokowski replied:

Thank you so much, Chance. I such a short time you have made Arizona home and your passion!

I was just listening to Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Iz and then I decided to visit your page to view your amazing paintings and the rainbow in this painting caught my eye! I do believe this rainbow stretches all the way over to Hawaii! ; ) Only I don't think there are any Arizona Big Horn Sheep there. LOL I love the way the rainbow appears to be lighting up the foreground of these mountains. Beautiful, as always, Jerry!!!

Jerry Bokowski replied:

Awww, Thank you so much, Deborah! I really appreciate your impressions on this.

It's always difficult to narrow a few of your images down to visit Jerry, because I love them all.. (I basically have to randomly click on your gallery.. knowing I'll be ultra-pleased with any I land on to favorite!) This is soooo dreamy and inviting.. Amazing!!!

Jerry Bokowski replied:

I never thought that I would be painting such rocky areas, Danielle. But this and others all led me to painting the Grand Canyon. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I always enjoy reading what you have to say!

Artist's Description

This is a view of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness area from Catalina State Park north west of Tucson, Arizona. Here huge Granite monoliths some over a thousand feet tall tower over the saguaro studded foothills. This extremely rugged area is composed of Intrusive Igneous Rock and is the home of Arizona Big Horn Sheep. The foothills start at 2,800 feet elevation. Midway up the mountain we find trees like Mountain Mahogany, Juniper, and Pinion Pine. The upper elevations at 9,000 feet feature Fir and Aspen trees. From this vantage point in Catalina State Park we see a late afternoon storm and rainbow.
Arizona's mountains like this are often called "Sky Islands" as they rise from the Sonoran Desert! This was another daunting painting for me that rocked my world but turned out well worth the effort!

About Jerry Bokowski

Jerry Bokowski

I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below. I paint real places that one can visit and see. Whether it be Finger Rock of the Catalina Mountains,The Sentinel in Zion National Park, or Mather Point at the Grand Canyon, it is my goal and desire to have my paintings draw a viewer to them and that they become...
