I often encourage anyone that goes to Zion National Park to plan it during a full moon. A fantastic place for lovers to experience together. The lofty two to three thousand foot sheer vertical cliffs softly illuminated by a full moon, provide an unforgettable experience. In this painting we are just across the Virgin River from the Organ...a 700 foot high rock formation that resembles a giant pipe organ. To the right we see Angels Landing at 1500 feet above the river and the planet Venus, and to the left we can see The Great White throne rising almost a vertical half mile into the night sky. There is a slight mist from the river that creates subtle moonbeams and the sound of gentle rapids makes for a very ethereal experience.

I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below. Definitely my most favorite so far, Jerry, this scenery is magical, the peaceful and yet majestic Moon covering all that she can touch with her silverish, comforting light. The beautiful planet Venus complements the moment and definitely stands out. A perfect full-moon night for lovers or not, but I would add, for all the poets in heart.

As massive as its towering cliff walls are, Zion is a relatively small place compared to the amount of visitors it gets. That, said, just walking through the main areas can be much more solitary. Then some of the back country trails are very solitary. The rugged layers and colors of Zion are unique and spectacular. I never tire of visiting Zion. You would fall in love with it, Judi!
