The soaring cliffs of Cave Creek Canyon, pocked with caves and punctuated with pinnacles, come into view well before you arrive. What an entrance to what's ahead. Located in the Coronado National Forest, just one of the Sky Islands Forest, near the town of Portal, Arizona. Your painting just beckons visitors to come and be inspired by this "Yosemite of Arizona." It certainly does showcase your one of a kind, beautiful style. A style that has spoiled me for other art out there. Promoting this in art group, BEAUTY OF ARIZONA, discussion thread, Famous Rock Formations and Mtns. of Arizona. like/fave/Facebook

Thank you so much for sharing your impressions of this beautiful place that inspired this work dear Janet Marie!

Artist's Description

Cave Creek Canyon has been called the YOSEMITE of Arizona. It is located at the eastern edge of the Chiricahua Mountains almost to the New Mexico border. The mountains were named after the Chiricahua Apache Indians and famous chief Cochise once made his home near here. The valley elevation is just over 4,700 feet while the peaks rise to almost 10,000 feet above sea level. In this scene, sunlight finds its way through spring rain clouds and illuminates part of the valley and granite cliffs to the right. This place is also a bird watcher's delight as many exotic migratory birds from Mexico can be seen. The tiny town of Portal is located nearby. This is one beautiful spot in Southeastern Arizona. I have always wanted to capture it on canvas and now it's done!

About Jerry Bokowski

Jerry Bokowski

I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below. I paint real places that one can visit and see. Whether it be Finger Rock of the Catalina Mountains,The Sentinel in Zion National Park, or Mather Point at the Grand Canyon, it is my goal and desire to have my paintings draw a viewer to them and that they become...
