Shortly after leaving Tubac, Arizona (USA), I saw the sun lighting up a huge granite monolith called Elephant Head in the Santa Rita mountains. I would soon be immersed in that storm that transformed our dry sandy desert washes into raging flood waters.
So my trip home turned into somewhat of an adventure. In Arizona there is a "Stupid Motorist Law" that fines a person and bills them for rescue workers if they are needed to be summoned. I hoped that I would not be on the evening news for getting washed away on the flooding roads, After slow but steady patient driving, I finally made it home although there were several cars that had stalled.
I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. A great image of an exciting and eventful day. Amazing, how many times, the sun illuminates this famous landmark, Elephant Head. I guess this summit rising almost 2000 feet, says why it catches the light just right. Everything is so green from all the monsoon rains. LF 💕💕💕💕
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This peak can be seen for 50-70 miles away, Janet. It is aptly named as it does resemble a pachyderm’s head, ears, and trunk depending on which angle you view it. Thank you so much as always, dearest one!
