The Dragoon Mountains, are one of the "Sky Islands of the Coronado National Forest," in southeastern Arizona (USA). Located in Cochise County.
These mountains are steep and rugged with forests at the higher elevations. The mountain slopes, at lower elevations, have scattered evergreen oaks, desert flowering plants, and grasses. As you can see here.
Cochise Stronghold, is located on the eastern side of these mountains, in the region of the Madrean Sky Islands.
This rugged area served as a natural fortress and hideout of the Chiricahua Apache Indians, led by Cochise. He was born in these Dragoon Mountains about 1815. From 1860 to 1872 the Cochise band battled the U.S. Calvary due to the handling of an incident at Apache Pass, about 30 miles east of here. It is believed that Cochise was buried somewhere in the Stronghold.
One can reach this area traveling a dirt road, N. Middlemarch Rd., just outside of famed Tombstone, Arizona. The road takes us closer...
I have been in awe of the deserts, mountains, and canyons of the great southwest for over 50 years. Atmospheric events like sunrise and sunsets, approaching storms and monsoon rains, fog and mist, snow, or moonlit nights, just add to the beauty of Arizona and Utah landscapes. This is what inspires a passion within me to capture the mood, drama, and majesty of being there....from being at the foot of a majestic crag or on top of a summit overlooking a distant valley below. I paint real places that one can visit and see. Whether it be Finger Rock of the Catalina Mountains,The Sentinel in Zion National Park, or Mather Point at the Grand Canyon, it is my goal and desire to have my paintings draw a viewer to them and that they become...

What a show stopper you got here Jerry! Fantastic decision to have all the emphasis and light on the craggy mountains, leaving the foreground muted and unimposing. The eye goes straight to those peaks but senses their distance. A very difficult thing to accomplish and you did it so well. Add this to my list of my favorite works of yours - super job! Featured in Arizona
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Chance. And thank you for sharing what you noticed about this.

What a breathtakingly beautiful rendition of the Dragoon Mountains, dear Jerry. Such a moody and dramatic painting. So aptly titled, too, as it is indeed grand and impressive in appearance. You have such a way with rocks, rightly called the "Rock Artist" as this really "rocks my world!" LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Your kind loving words ROCK my world, dear Janet Marie! Thank you so much beautiful woman!
