Description
I have seen snow at Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona (USA) several times over the years, and it is sublime. Here heavy snow blankets all but the Black Granite Gorge. The sun peeks through at times and in this case, illuminates the Tower Of Set and Tonto Platform. This view can be seen from Mohave Point.
I wanted to include the Colorado River five thousand feet down and then all the way to the distant North Rim horizon ten miles away. You can hear the white water rapids by cupping your hands behind your ears and it sounds wonderful.
The snow was from my mind's eye, my imagination as well as the lighting. I am always in awe of this grandest of canyons and never tire of visiting this inspiring place.
My goal is to create a painting that evokes being there on the rim or like seeing it through a window. The canyon defies capture by any photo or painting. It must be seen and experienced to be appreciated. If my work enhances fond memories of it or stirs the desire to see it in person, then I have succeeded!

Jerry this is gorgeous! The composition has a such an intelligent graphic aspect. The way you have arranged the light and shadow, the gradation in color in contrast to the patterns, texture and detail is absolutely brilliant. Another Masterpiece!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I have seen snow on the Canyon, but for this I just added snow, light, and shadow, to an area we know well. Thank you so much for sharing your impressions on this with me, Amy! You know how much I appreciate your art!

what a stunning work, Jerry! this definitely evokes being there and then some. It is so rich in detail and has a magical quality to it - the snow is so perfectly blanketing the canyon and the sunlight effect you did is heavenly.
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Chance. It snowed in early May of 1985 when we were there!

Jerry Bokowski replied:
You are the third person on FAA to tell me that Grand Canyon is on your bucket list, Pavitha ! The first, changed their mind, the second came last April and saw Sedona, Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce, the third ?! I hope you can see it someday. No words can describe it, no camera can capture it, no artist can paint its vast depth, width, and length. Thank you so much as always and I am always looking forward to new posts from YOU!
