Description
This was painted for the Tohono Chul Park annual 10 x 10 Fundraiser. "An Invitational Exhibition of small works by the artists who have made the exhibits at Tohono Chul shine throughout the last year."
This scene is only 20 minutes from my home on the outskirts of Tucson, Arizonal. My aim was to feature prominent Sonoran desert mountains and cactus blooms.
Here we see the Santa Rita mountains and Mount Wrightson towering over the high desert grasslands near Sonoita, Arizona. Soaptree Yuccas (resembling Joshua trees), send up a stalk of beautiful white blooms.
Among the grass we often see Prickly Poppies, which have been nick named Cowboy's Fried Eggs.
Las Cienegas Conservation Area is nearby along with famous Empire Ranch that was founded by Walter Vail in the late 1870's while Geronimo was still on the loose!
Also nearby, are several of Arizona's vineyards and wineries. All feature wonderful wine tastings and many have won national awards for great wines!

Revisiting this beauty, as I LOVE the soaptree yucca blooms. They are especially wonderful in grassland setting like these, with the Santa Rita Mountains looming in the background. Promoting this in BEAUTY OF ARIZONA discussion thread, Wildflowers and Flowering Plants Native To Arizona. like/fave/Facebook

Thank you Janet, for the revisit, I am glad that you like it that much. It was my aim to feature the prominent Sonora Desert mountains and its beautiful flora of soaptree yucca blooms and the prickly poppies (affectionately known as the Cowboy's Fried Eggs). Truly evoking a feeling of "Sonoita Serenity!" I really appreciate you promoting this painting on Facebook as well.

What a beautiful and serene desert scene Jerry! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This was just a simple 10x10 painting for a fund raiser, Rosanne. This area is just 20 minutes from my home in Vail. A beautiful area for sure!

I love the elegant simplicity of this with just the yucca and poppy blossoms taking center stage. Lovely work of art. Featured in American Desert Southwest.

Sonoita serenity is right, Jerry. I, also love your entire series of small works. I especially like this one, as it showcases two of my favorites that adorn our Arizona grasslands, the Soaptree Yucca blooms and the Prickly Poppy. This shares a totally different perspective many may have, when they hear, Arizona. A beautiful setting to have Mt. Wrightson in the background. The way you put a scene together is just, MARVELoUS! Thank you so much, Janet Marie! The high desert grasslands of Sonoita have always been a place I enjoy visiting.
