Description
This is a second version of this painting. It is photographed in different light. Any print of an original, be it photograph or painting, or even the original painting itself will look different depending on how it is lit in your home. Properly lit, as in a fine art gallery, and the work will come to life. Conversely, if the work has no light, just hung on a wall it will appear lifeless, dull, and unremarkable. So if you want ANY print that you buy on FAA, to look great, plan to light it properly and you and all that see it will appreciate what the artist intended!
This is a painting of a two thousand foot high granite monolith named Elephant Head. It is a prominent part of the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson, Arizona. During the month of August of 2015, I was returning home from an art show in Tubac and saw this view during one of our summer monsoon rains. The grasslands along the Santa Cruz River valley were green from weeks of rain starting in July.
Elephant Head is lit by the sun peaking through the thick rain clouds. I was so smitten by what I saw, I decided to do a painting of it. Summer storms in and around our mountains can be breathtaking!

This one caught my eye because of the sky...purple my favorite color....beautiful!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This was painted after I experienced a day there but I must admit to exaggerating the colors a bit. I can see this crag Elephant Head all the way from my home 45 miles away. Thank you for your kind words on this, Susanna! They are always most welcome!
Malanda Warner
I absolutely love the light and fresh yellow/greens of the grasslands, the emphasis of light and colour on Elephant Head and above all, the rich velvety blues and purples of the sky and rain! A very pleasant colour palette! LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
August after a few weeks of rain is really the only time we see green like this in the rural areas in Southern Arizona, Malanda. It really is a welcome and sweet change for us! Thank you as always!

Another amazing piece Jerry! I love the way you've captured the movement of a storm passing thru this beautiful landscape, the sunlight on the rocky peak and the lush green meadows really draw your attention! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you, Denise. I painted this almost a year ago after seeing a storm like this.
