Description
**This was painted for the Tohono Chul Park annual 10 x 10 Fundraiser. "An Invitational Exhibition of small works by the artists who have made the exhibits at Tohono Chul shine throughout the last year." SOLD at this show. **
I did a number of small paintings featuring our magnificent mountains and flowers of the Arizona Sonoran Desert. Here we see a Queen Of The Night flower blooming under a full moon with Baboquivari Peak looming in the background. Queen of the night flowers bloom only at night for just one night.
Per the Tohono Chul website: "Each year, for one evening only, Tohono Chul opens its doors to visitors from around the world to experience the mystery, majesty and beauty of the Queen of the Night, the night-blooming cereus Peniocereus greggii. It is home to the largest collection."

Promoting this beautiful artwork in the discussion thread in Beauty of Arizona. Sharing what I have said before. This is exceptional artwork dear Jerry. It is no wonder that the original sold at the "Tohono Chul Park Annual Invitational Exhibition of small works by the artists who have made the exhibits at Tohono Chul shine throughout the previous year." Congratulations for that! I love what you said about it, "a small painting, featuring our magnificent mountains and flowers of the Arizona Sonoran Desert. Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Janet! I loved reading every word!

I am re-visiting this gem! Love the way this flower pops right out of the dark night, lit by the full moon! A Queen for sure! And as always, I love how you pay attention to light, especially on that cactus in the foreground. I can see why this sold at the show. How blessed we all are that you've captured this beauty, which only blooms for one night. When I stand back from this painting, The Queen flower looks like a shooting star that came down to grace the earth. Wonderful! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I always appreciate a return visit from you, Deborah! Thank you so much! I always enjoy your thoughtful comments!

The contrast between the white cactus flower and saturated green plant against the grays of the night time desert background add interest and drama to this wonderful painting. like/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Anne! This one sold right away at the Tohono Chul fund raiser!

How beautiful!!! I visited the Sonoran Desert a few years ago during the month of April and I was privileged to see many gorgeous cactus in bloom ... what a sight!!! But I was not there at night, and I didn't get to see anything that could rival this beauty, Jerry!!! Glorious artwork ... I love the moonlight glowing through the petals!!! Magic!!! l/f t and fb
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Lois! This was a series of “quick draw” paintings that served as a fund raiser for the Botanical Gardens of Tohono Chul.

great news! Tohono Chul's model for this show is one I wish more galleries would adapt - uniform sizing and pricing is proven in many business models to yield the most SALES. Well deserved!

Thank you very much Chance. Yes indeed, I am sure that art galleries are think tanking to improve sales!

Came back to visit Queen of the night! I can't wait to hear about the exhibition!

Unlike most exhibitions that start with an Artist’s Reception, this opened to the public weeks before a reception. So we’ll see how it goes... Thank you very much, Amy!

Wow, how funny it is that I find this beautiful painting of yours, of a Queen of the Night flower. And that this flower only blooms at night, for one night. And I just posted my Morning Glory flowers, that only bloom in the morning. ( some last till the afternoon ). Love how you have that special way that you paint the light in your paintings, from the earth's light source... this one being the moon with a haze around it. Lovely! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I always enjoy reading what you have to say, Deb. You always bring a smile to my face and are always so encouraging. Thank you so much!
