Description
Along the Hermit Trail, west of Grand Canyon Village, are some fabulous viewpoints of Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park.
Among them is Pima Point. One can see the Colorado River from here, as well as a great view of the countless layers of rock. I decided to paint this view from Pima Point, and it was incredibly challenging. From the top down I wanted capture the Kaibab Limestone, Coconino Sandstone, Hermit Shale, the Supai Group, Redwall Limestone, Mauve Limestone, among others.
The way these layers all form the dramatic temples, buttes, and peaks is incredible. Each layer is cracked, fractured, broken into countless uneven and random edges, each with varying colors. Compound curves galore.
Combine that with the immense scale of this place, the depth, and the dozens of geologic formations, the distance to the far horizon and it is one phenomenal degree of difficulty to pull off!
Add a big, bull elk to the scene, and you behold creation at its best.
From here famous formations like Temple of Ra, Marsh Butte, Scorpion Ridge, Leconte Plateaux, Confucius Temple, Point Sublime, Havasupai Point, Fossil Bay, and distant Mt. Trumbull can be seen. Far below, the lower Black Granite Gorge stretches north west giving us a glimpse of the Colorado River flowing and that is always special.
So after 15 studio sessions, over almost three weeks, it is done!
After all the effort, time, and patience, I can now view this from 8 feet away, and feel as though I am looking through a window at Grand Canyon! What a reward.

I always have to look at the 'medium' you mention to ensure it's not a photograph! And I admit I second guess your claim ;). Love this!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Others have thought the same way as you. I posted a video on my Facebook page that shows this painting from sketch out to completion over several studio sessions. Thank you so much for your visit and comments, Elizabeth.

Jerry! Phenomenal, is certainly what this is. As phenomenal means...very remarkable or extraordinary, also perceptible by the senses or through immediate experience. So totally true of this painting. Tejsweena should see your slideshow of the progress of this AweSoMe, masterful artwork, and she will see how true her words are. Also Promoting this in the Art Group, Beauty of Arizona, "National Parks, State Parks, and National Monuments of Arizona!" LF and FB Janet💕

Dear Jerry this is honestly a masterpiece from many of yours! I love the realistic approach that make a mind confused as a photograph if not mentioned as it's painting! I see a very patient human in life with a very sharp focused trained mind! Your creation is so powerfully optimistic that is spreading the message of peace everywhere my friend, and just like your work, you are amazing! Be blessed, and happy, always! :)
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much for your kind words, Tejsweena! I appreciate each and every one of them.

Beautiful photography!

Thanks Lynn only it’s not photography. See my Facebook page that shows the progression of this painting one brush stroke at a time. Still, I take your comment as a compliment. Thanks again!

Oh my! This is such an incredible scene! I am so taken by the light and the shadows that fall in between these dramatic layers of all that you mentioned in your description! LOL. I am viewing this in awe and noticing more and more as I look at it. And then I read your description and I must look some more and I am amazed all over again! I try to picture this view in person, which I can only hope to do one day. But until then, I thank God for your painting. God bless you, Jerry and keep on painting!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Your wonderful words have made my day, dear Deborah! We have enjoyed each other’s work for years now but even more, each other’s friendship! Thank you so much for all of your support over the years and even more so again, your friendship!

Very beautifully done, Jerry. Your attention to detail is phenomenal as always. I love the decision to go for a bright, bold, sunny feel here, with the clouds up top adding to the drama, and the dark, shadowed trees on the right creating an exceptional frame. This has a 3D, HD look to it and will definitely be a show-stealer!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
It was time for a bright sun shiny day as opposed to dark and moody, Chance. Glad you picked up on that. Thank you as always for your enthusiastic support. This looks really good in person, up on the wall, lit up!
