Description
The town of Vail, Arizona, was named after the Vail family that founded Empire Ranch some 25 miles away in the late 1870s. In 1928, the Vail family sold their ranch to some well respected ranchers, the Boice family. This family owned the ranch until 1969. While there, they remodeled the original ranch house and added some additional homes on the property. This home was built in 1954, by Frank Boice. It included a two story garage next door that had a large room on the second floor. It is located on a hill that is right next to the Empire Gulch. The valley is lined with huge Cottonwood trees. This view of the home can be seen from the half octagon bay window of the original ranch house that I have done two paintings of. The current president of The Empire Ranch Foundation is a woman named Faith Boice. Yes, her family is a big part of this historic ranch. I hope she has an opportunity to see this as well as all of my paintings of this amazing ranch. I have a picture of me standing next to one of the old giant Cottonwood trees that is directly behind this home. Being here is like coming right out of a time machine into the cowboy days of the old west. I will be updating this description from time to time as I learn more from Faith about this wonderful place! I owe my inspiration for painting unique homes like this to FAA artist Hanne Lore Koehler. Her architectural work is awesome.
* Update: Sadly, a wild fire destroyed many of the old giant Cottonwood Trees behind this house in April of 2017. So this painting shows how it once looked before the fire.

Paying a revisit. You are most welcome for my other comment. Your versatility is impressive!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you, Chance. We were there just last Saturday. Sadly, many of those giant Cottonwoods behind the house were destroyed by a wild fire in April of 2017. At least this shows “The way it was”...”The way it used to be”!

Jerry this goes to show that you can really do it all! Absolutely beautiful architectural painting, gorgeous blue sky, light, shadows, and a nice story behind it!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Aww thanks, Chance. Once in a while I enjoy doing some historic architecture now and then!
Daniel Bosler
This really grabs me, and gives me the confidence to try a painting of the 50s ranch style house I grew up in in San Diego. Working on an arts and crafts bungalow right now, very challenging perspective! Anyway, you're work is a real inspiration.
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Daniel. Glad you got some motivation. Us artists can always use a little from time to time!
Danielle R T Haney
Such a cozy and beautiful place Jerry~ Love the way you nestled it in the trees and shadows, while looking sunny, warm, and bright at the same time... Bravo!!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Danielle. Sadly, last April, a wild fire destroyed almost 40 of these 100 plus year old Cottonwood Trees. Looks a lot different now. Fires have been so devastating here out west lately.

~ I'm so sorry we didn't make it to the Empire Ranch because of the fire that day, dear Jerry ))) It must be a very special place ))) ~
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Unlike the thousands of years of history in your world our cattle ranch history only goes back 135 to 165 years. Still amazing to reflect back on those times and the people that settled here in Arizona back then! Thank you as always dear Eva!
Malanda Warner
The brilliant fresh landscape and cottonwood trees are eye catching! The crisp lines and colours of the ranch style home are a nice contrast and beautifully rendered! Reminds of something I would see in an architectural design magazine! LF
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you so much, Malanda. Behind that house are some of the biggest Cottonwoods I have ever been around and beautuful when Empire Gultch is flowing. The sound of wind and water are wonderful!
Connie Handscomb
Exquisite, Jerry! the emerald green is ... well, of course, I am in love with it! the detail of the trees, the fence, the buildings ... are all very fine;this is wonderfully fresh, Jerry, & I encourage you to please do more of these unique structures, you have an affinity for the fine lines :)) {I also like the darker colours framing the artwork; bravo!}
Jerry Bokowski replied:
You are an artist with words, Connie. Especially when you write about how you see and feel about my work. For that I am forever grateful!
Donna Kennedy
Such a beautiful painting and history of the Empire Ranch Jerry! It's wonderful that you are preserving a piece of this historic place through your inspiring talent. I know if and when Faith gets a chance to see your artwork she will love it!...F/L

Amazing painting! A continuation of memories of the past. A midcentury modern style home and 1950's family life. In such beautiful surroundings of such fabulous trees. Your keen interest in the Empire Ranch has captured another time in the history of this place. Life was certainly different then. Your painting draws us into a glimpse of the story of this place. Fabulous, serene, inviting, and beautiful. Thank you so much for being able to put it on canvas. I marvel at your talent. L/FV
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I could read and re read your comments daily and never tire of them, JA. Touching words that I'll remember each and every time I paint. I hope that Faith Boice, President of the Empire Ranch Foundation, can see all my work of Empire Ranch someday in Person. She has a standing invitation to do so!
Lucinda Walter
Congratulations! Your beautiful work is featured in the FAA group "Beauty of Arizona"
Miroslava Jurcik
This is such an amazing work, the colours, the detail and the beautiful nature !!! Interesting description !! l/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Oh thank you, Miroslava. I hope to soon meet the Grand daughter of the man that built this home. I hope that she will really like it.
Linda Howes
I thought this was a photo at first Jerry! Such amazing detail, it really looks like one! l/f
Lucinda Walter
Jerry, this is so beautiful. Love all your details here and the colors. l/f
Jerry Bokowski replied:
This home doesn't usually get the attention it deserves as part of the historic 1870s ranch. I just thought it played a big part during the mid 1950s. Thank you so much Lucinda.
Gabriella Weninger - David
What a beautiful Place to live... Absolutely STUNNING work Jerry!!!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
The land is much the same as is was decades ago, Gabriella. It was and still is, a place of solitude. Thank you so much for your visit and comments!
