Description
December morning sun peeks through the clouds to illuminate Zoroaster Temple of the Grand Canyon. This view is from Mohave Point where we can see all the way down to the Colorado River. Weather systems in the Grand Canyon can be sublime. Here we see rain over the North Rim and about ready to pour down on Brahma Temple just behind Zoroaster. I am dedicating this work to my late beloved Grandmother who always encouraged my art and taught me so much as we used to work side by side. The year I graduated high school she released a book she wrote entitled, "Light From The Shadows".
It chronicled her life long volunteer work in mental hospitals where she taught her charcoal brushing technique to depressed patients in order to lift their spirits, and help them recover and get their life back. She always said anyone can do it using her techniques. She was voted Omaha, Nebraska's Woman of the year and Volunteer of the year. She also did a portrait of famous Tucson artist Ted De Grazia in the early 1960s. I have a picture of the two of them together in my Portraits Collections. She also was known for doing a portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in which he personally wrote a letter of thanks. She would have loved this painting and I will always be thankful to her and cherish our times together!.

Haha...yes, I like to light my focal points, especially at Grand Canyon when there are countless famous formations. Thank you very much, Chance!

Paying a revisit to this stunning canyon painting, Jerry.. amazing detail and rendering for an 18x12. The light is simply divine and Zoroaster really, really pops out here. Also, what a beautiful tribute to your Grandmother!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thank you very much, Chance! Actually it is an 18x24. Yes, I am guilty of “spot lighting”...Zoroaster!
Chance Kafka
Absolutely glorious light on that temple. Love the hint of river down there, too!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
