Description
Tucson Arizona is surrounded by mountains often called Sky Islands. To the south are the
Santa Rita mountains. The west end of them features magnificent Elephant Head Rock. It is a 2,000 foot granite monolith that resembles the head of an elephant.
The view here is from near the Amado exit of Interstate 19. Towering in the misty distance to the upper left is Mount Wrightson at over 9,400 feet. To the right horizon, we see Mount Hopkins, home of a telescope observatory.
Everytime we drive to Tubac, Arizona for an art show, we see amazing views of these mountains. This little painting is my effort to capture our experience, the FEELING of being there!

Love the moody depth and mist separating the the soaring Mount Wtightson and the rugged Elephant Head monolith below. The clouds are sublime too, and the subtle foreground adds a nice frame to the bottom but really keeps the focus on the mountains. Great execution on the tiny canvas!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Thanks for being the first to comment on this, Chance! Small paintings will be my mainstay for quite awhile.
