Description
The last light of day is filtered by summer monsoon rains as it illuminates the Superstition Mountains east of Apache Junction, Arizona. That light makes them look like they are glowing from within. Wild flowers adorn the Sonoran Desert thriving on the July rains. This wilderness area is incredibly rugged. Just north of here is Weaver's Needle, an impressive monolith that I have featured in a painting called Weaver's Eagle. A bit farther north, lie the majestic Mazatzal Mountains that feature Four Peaks. My family has driven by these numerous times on our way to Canyon and Apache Lakes. Stunning, rugged, beautiful crags surround this area filled with history and legends. Famous Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia loved these mountains and decided that he would protest the IRS attempt to tax his paintings by burning a hundred of his original works valued at 1.5 million dollars not far from here. People still hike way back into the mountains in search of the Lost Dutchmans Goldmine. The color of these mountains this time of day as they reflect last light is breath taking!

The light that you rendered in this painting is simply magical, Jerry. You so beautifully and well said, "the light makes them look like they are glowing from within". I can see and feel it in your painting. The colors and composition are also wonderful, as always. I am so happy and lucky to have the beautiful metal print of this magnificent work and being able to admire it everyday. Just love it! LF

U will love the Himalayas, and a new subject for the mountain dweller in you!. And when u see Nicholas Roerich's entire ouvre in the quaint gallery in his estate in Naggar you will see the link. Been there a few times and once a local curator informed me about this legend that there's a guardian spirit of the Roerich family which guards the estate. Ofcourse that spooked me out, nevertheless a must visit esp for a landscape painter of nature's bountiful mountains as you!:) God bless
Jerry Bokowski replied:
For now my travels are limited to Arizona. I often travel by looking at art and photography of others from around the world. Music of various cultures can transport me as well. Thank you for your comments, Renu.

Oh ok. I'll look the portraits collection. If you visit India, most certainly visit this little haven of a hill station near Manali in Himachal Pradesh called, 'Naggar' nestled in the himalayan foot hills. I think you'll like it. The Nicholas Roerich Estate where was his residence is in Naggar.
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I wish we could see parts of India someday. I would like to visit the Coorg/Kodagu as I have a dear friend and her family there. Northern India too as it is near the Himalayas! Nice to hear from you, Renu!

These landscapes seem replete with myth and legend...how charming! The fiery tones of red on the mountains enhance its regal monumentality...and the anecdote about the artist is sounds incredible!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
I knew the artist. There are photos of him in my portraits collection. Thank you very much for your visit and comments, Renu!
