Description
This painting has been donated to the Empire Ranch Foundation.
Working a cattle ranch in Arizona is Hard work. After a full day of dawn to dusk work, everyone at Empire Ranch is home for the night, The cowboy quarters to the left have their lanterns lit as cowboys get ready to call it a day. Lights can also be seen in the offices, one for the owner and the other for the full time book keeper. Lamps are also lit in the Victorian style home and fire places in the living room and family room are burning brightly ready for a cold night. A full moon illuminates the clouds and ranch. The smell of mesquite grilled steak, beans, and biscuits fill the air. This view of the ranch is from Empire Gulch and one can hear the wind blow through the giant cottonwood trees. This spot is where Frank Boice built what is known as The New Ranch House in 1954 which was the subject of another one of my paintings. One can sometimes hear coyotes howling, owls hooting in the otherwise silent solitude.
I love full moons and I love this historic ranch and hope that my passion for it is reflected in my work!

Just a few weeks ago we took a special guest from Macedonia there to see the ranch but the road off the highway was closed due to a recent wild fire. Fortunately firefighters were able to save the Historic Ranch. Thank you for commenting on this, Rachel!

Thank you, Georgia. I tried to use the old cowboy artist masters technique of dark emerald greens to create a night time light on the scene.
