Description
Between 1995 and 2000, we went to Apache Lake many times. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
The lake was formed in 1927, when the Horse Mesa Dam was completed. This lake is set among sun-painted canyon walls, which form scenic backdrops to the lake itself, along the Salt River Canyon.
The lush saguaro studded Sonoran desert along with the rugged colorful cliffs make for a visual delight. This is one of my favorite spots on the lake, a small cove opposite the sunlit cliffs during late afternoon. I included another image of this painting shot in cool northern light and I'll let the beholder choose their favorite image. Either way, I love Apache Lake.
I invite you to visit my Apache Lake Gallery for more paintings of this amazing lake!

I can't believe that I have never commented on this beautiful painting before, of Apache Lake, Arizona. Promoting this in Beauty of Arizona art group promotion thread, "Arizona Makes A Splash-Lakes Streams Creeks Ponds!" I love what you said in your description, and I agree totally, sharing: "In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The lake is formed by a dam along the Salt River Canyon. Jerry, gorgeous, such an incredible job painting the water and all the detail on the mountains!
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Painting water is always a challenge, Barbara! This time of day with wind and boat wake it’s quite choppy but still reflective. Thank you so much for your impressions on this!

Looking through your wonderful paintings, this one caught my eye. At first I thought it was a photograph. Then when I clicked on it, I was thrilled to see that it was indeed a painting! The light on the cliffs are, of course, outstanding. But the water......wow! You've really captured the realistic look and feel to the water of this river. Bet you could paint this river with your eyes closed! L/F
Jerry Bokowski replied:
Sorry for the late response to your wonderful comment, Deborah. Yes, the Salt River Canyon lakes are incredible but the choppy water that day was a huge challenge and I needed both eyes and focused concentration to paint it. Thank so much as always for you visit and sweet words!
Debra Banks

Jerry Bokowski replied:
I wanted the water to look choppy as it often is during mid afternoon, Debra. Water is always a challenge so thank you very much!
